I just came back from England from an awesome course and during our stay I experienced the city of London for one day and half and we also spent two days in a little town called Letchworth, the world first Garden city; 30 minutes away by train from King's cross station in London.
This town is in Hertfordshire, it reminded me of Tuscany with its green hill tops and lush winding streets...
At the beginning of our journey, I felt very peaceful being there since the nature is so beautiful and after a little time I realized, with my surprise, that the inhabitants were affected by the usual patterns belonging to big city's people, in other words they were behaving exactly like the Londoners... Pretty much the same pace, we were laughing at their incredible fast way of speaking and behaving.
After two days I really admitted, together with my husband, that where you live can only incidentally change your state of being...If you are experiencing a turmoil of thoughts in your head it will happen anywhere you are, either in London or in Letchworth.
So in our time, maybe more then ever, the practice of meditation is so useful!
Now there are many ways to explain meditation, what it is, what it does, how it works.
It can be useful when you want to strengthens your awareness or you want to center yourself and being focused. Or maybe when you want to relax the body-mind or halting your constant verbal thinking .
I could keep going saying that can bolster your self esteem, reduce anxiety, alleviate depression.
All those are demonstrated to be true and I also want to say that meditation is and always has been a Spiritual practice. It is a way to go inward, to find the the God within. Spirituality is not religious. So it is not prayer, prayer is religious.
Meditation is going beyond our ego. Meditation does not belong to a particular religion, it is part of the universal spiritual culture of all of us human beings to raise our awareness on every aspect of life. That is why I think that each of us would benefit from it, because it is part of what has been called the perennial philosophy.
So when you are in Letchworth,in London or in Stockholm you can be aware that meditation is not only a way to improve the quality of your life. It can also definitely elevate you to a spiritual practice .
All the best to you!
